Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perceptions on Demographic Issues in Greece

The Institute of Demographic Research (IDR), in collaboration with the Laboratory of Demographic and Social Analyses (LDSA) at the University of Thessaly, is preparing to conduct two large-scale field surveys using slightly modified questionnaires titled “Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perceptions on Demographic Issues in Greece.” The first survey will target the general population, while the second will focus on the young population, representing the upcoming productive and reproductive age generation.

In addition to the primary objective of exploring knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions regarding demographic issues within these two groups, the surveys will also assess the impact of information on these populations, specifically, how exposure to information influences their understanding of demographic events and their potential consequences.

Their findings are not solely—or even primarily—of scientific interest. They provide valuable insights into our “demographic” education, revealing how our demographic “sensitivity” is expressed, including the media’s potential influence. These findings shed light on which issues are considered important or prioritized and whether—and to what extent—understanding demographic phenomena shapes collective perceptions of population issues. Moreover, the findings have practical, “operational” significance for organizations involved in shaping policies focused on or related to “demography,” as citizens’ views and perceptions on these matters can influence such policies directly or indirectly.
